Wedding Dates You Should Consider Avoiding

The Weekends Before A Monday Holiday

At first, this might seem like a great idea. And setting your wedding date so that you’ll have a three day weekend to celebrate with your family and friends seems awesome, right? Especially with everyone having the following Monday off!  You might even think that having your wedding on a Sunday night would be awesome for ambiance and cost savings. However, travel costs usually skyrocket during these holidays. If you’re planning on having lots of people travel to your wedding, know that you might get lots of declined invitations due to highly priced flights and hotel costs. Here are the remaining Monday holidays for 2017.

  • Presidents’ Day – Weekend of February 18–20, 2017
  • Memorial Day – Weekend of May 27-29, 2017
  • Labor Day – Weekend of September 2-4, 2017
  • Columbus Day – Weekend of October 7-9, 2017

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Weekend

If you’re planning on having kids after marriage, then you might want to reconsider having your wedding on either Mother’s or Father’s Day weekend. Trying to celebrate your anniversary over the course of either of these two weekends could be difficult if you have children that want to celebrate with you.

  • Mother’s Day – Weekend of May 13–14, 2017
  • Father’s Day – Weekend of June 17–18, 2017

Granted, some of these dates might work for you. It’s really up to the individual tastes of the bride and groom, and what fits the best with their needs. Just weigh out the pros and cons before deciding. Don’t miss the second post in the series for even more 2017 wedding dates to avoid.
