The Hearing Loss Association of America, or the HLAA, started the Walk4Hearing event way back in 2006 with just 6 walks. This year, the Walk4Hearing event is celebrating almost 10 years of walking for hearing loss. 21 walks will be scheduled throughout the entire United States to raise awareness. During this past decade, this HLAA event has brought more than 58,000 people together for a day of fun and a chance to share stories as well as to make hearing loss an urgent public health issue.
This year, the 10th annual North Carolina Walk4Hearing was held on Sunday, October 18th at the WakeMED Soccer Park in Cary, NC. This fun, family event was to benefit the HLAA, and local cochlear implant company MED-EL was the presenting sponsor!
MED-EL’s founders actually developed one of the world’s first cochlear implants in 1975. Since then, they’ve been a world leader in setting new standards in hearing implant technologies. MED-EL has led the way developing and manufacturing technologically advanced hearing solutions for people who suffer from many kinds of hearing loss.

We had over 400 hungry guests at the event so we set up multiple buffets so everyone could get their plates in a timely manner. If you’re curious, this is how we would set up a large corporate catering event.
For the sides, we offered our delicious Mac and Cheese, creamy Cole Slaw, and a huge bounty of classic Baked Beans along with fresh baked Rolls and Butter.
The main star of the day’s big meal was our famous Carolina Pulled Pork. This was served with Eastern and Western style sauces.
For the other big dish, guests devoured the Bone-In BBQ Chicken; another North Carolina favorite!
For dessert, everyone enjoyed some really great cookies!
