Food for your Fall Wedding | Raleigh Catering Company Tips

Fall is a magnificent time to host a North Carolina wedding. However, planning fresh new catering ideas for your autumn reception can be a little tricky. Fortunately, we recently sat down with Phillip Lin, owner of Raleigh catering company Catering by Design, to discuss a few of the most popular catering trends this year for fall wedding receptions.

Comfort foods with a twist.

Brides may want an extravagant party to celebrate their wedding, but that doesn’t mean they’re shying away from their favorite down home foods. Phillip says couples still want their favorite southern foods but they’re looking for quality items with a little extra zing. Food stations used to be quite basic at wedding receptions.  These days, they’re much more updated and interactive. Brides, grooms and their guests really like being able to interact with the chef and watching their food being prepared right in front of them.

So keep those great southern flavors flowing, but make sure to add a little extra wow factor for your fall wedding reception.

Fall wedding receptions go later into the night.

Autumn is my favorite time of the year in North Carolina. I love the contrast of colorful leaves against a bright blue sky and the cool crisp air. These perfect conditions mean guests will want to celebrate even later into the night. To keep the party going and the guests dancing longer, Phillip suggests that brides and grooms should include late-night food at their fall wedding reception. He says late-night food often includes delicious desserts or even a brand name product with their own special twist.

Think Krispy Kreme doughnuts here. They make a great option and you can really jazz them up.

There are certain foods that immediately come to mind for fall wedding menus. Don’t worry! Those earthy flavors and favorites are still fashionable.

Meals featuring butternut squash, pumpkin, apples, pork loin, and smoked meats are still very popular menu items for fall wedding receptions.

Phillip explains that you really can’t go wrong with either a buffet or formal meal for a fall reception. He says brides should choose their meal based on their wedding theme and if the wedding, as a whole, is formal or casual.
