Raleigh Halloween Catering Tips | Spooky Rice Krispie Treats
Halloween is right around the corner. We love this time of year as it allows you to really get creative with your cooking or baking. As we close in on trick-or-treating, we wanted to show a few different ideas to put a few neat twists on the classic Rice Krispie Treat. These creative Krispies are simple to make and will be sure to make your Raleigh Halloween catering event a ghostly good time!
Above we have the Rice Krispie Pumpkins. For this idea, we used the original Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treat recipe. You will need to add red and yellow food coloring until the mixture turns into the orange color that you like. Now that you have the proper pumpkin color, rub some butter in the palms of your hands and roll into cereal balls. You will find this a lot easier if you add more butter to your hands between each pumpkin ball.
Now that you have your pumpkin Krispie balls, cut Tootsie Rolls in half and place the cut side down into the top portion of the pumpkin ball to make the stem. Take some green icing and use it to make little leaves on each side of the Tootsie Roll stem for a great effect.
FrankenKrispies require a little more effort, but it’s well worth it in the long run. Your kids, coworkers, and friends will really get a kick out of them. For this idea, we also used the original Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treat recipe. You’ll need to pick up a few extra ingredients such as toothpicks, mini marshmallows, green food coloring, candy eyes, a bag of melting chocolate, squeeze bottle or pipette bag. The paper straws are optional but add a great effect. Plus, people love the less mess factor of eating things on sticks.
While you’re following the original Rice Krispie Treat recipe, you’ll need to add the green food coloring until you get the desired color. Next, while the Krispie treats are cooling, cut into rectangles. You can make them any size you like but 3 inches by 4 inches is ideal. Before they completely cool, press the candy eyes in the face and add the straws to the bottom. Cut the straws to your desired length.
After your FrankenKrispies have cooled, take toothpicks and cut them in half. Add mini marshmallows to each half and stick them into the side as ears.
Next, you’ll want to melt the chocolate. You can use a stove, or microwave, just make sure to follow the directions. It takes less than 2 minutes in most cases. Once melted, use a knife to spread on the hair and a squeeze bottle or pipette bag to make the mouths.
