If you’re new to this series, part one discussed slowing down and taking in the moment, the proper way to share your good news, and what venders you should be booking first. Part two is going to talk about your save-the-dates, DIY projects, Pinterest, and more. If you’re in need of affordable wedding catering Raleigh NC services please call Catering by Design. Brides love our free menu tastings!

Even More Mistakes Newly Engaged Couples Should Avoid

Save the Save-the-Dates – After setting your wedding date, don’t go firing off too many save-the-dates until you’ve got your venue booked and guest list established. Reason being, if you send out too many save-the-date cards prematurely you run the risk of having to uninvite people later. It’s important to know how many people your venue will hold so you can plan your guest lists accordingly.

The Pinterest Problem – Don’t get me wrong, I love everything about Pinterest and have many many boards. However, when it comes to planning a wedding you have to have some self-discipline. You have to be careful not to go overboard with too many outrageous DIY project ideas, as well as watching out for “Social Media Sadness.” Social Media Sadness is when you start to feel inadequate because you are constantly judging and comparing yourself and what you have against what others are posting.

Starting DIY Projects Too Early – Speaking about Pinterest above, you’ve probably already made a board or two for all of the DIY projects you want to incorporate into your wedding and reception. But before you run out to your local art and crafts supply store and spend lots of money, there are few things you should be aware of. First, you need to have established your color scheme and overall wedding theme. Otherwise you’ll run the risk of having a bunch of supplies that might not match your final vision. Furthermore, your tastes might change down the road so make sure you have a good plan. Your plan should include your colors, wedding theme, a list of all the supplies that you’ll need, the time involved to make the crafts as well as how you’re going to store and transport them.

Crash Dieting – It’s not unusual for newly engaged brides to dream of dropping a few dress sizes before their big day. I’d even wager that 95% of brides have had these thoughts. Kara Beutel is a nutrition counselor at One By One Nutrition. In her professional opinion, brides should focus on a long-term, sustainable diet and exercise instead of fads and crash diets. Beutel says brides should, “Think of your wedding day as the beginning, not an end point,” and that, “Small changes to eating habits that are manageable will help you to fit into your dress and start a healthier lifestyle that you can enjoy with your soon-to-be spouse.”

Hopefully the ideas we’ve shared in the last two posts will help all newly engaged couples avoid making mistakes that could put a damper on plan making. Do you have any ideas to share on how to make the planning process easier? If so, please share them in the comment section at the bottom of the page. Be sure not to miss part one for the top most common mistakes.
