More Deep Frying Turkey Safety Tips

It is important to understand the dangers and the safety precautions needed for deep frying your turkey.

Safety Gear You’ll Need

When you’re deep frying a turkey for Thanksgiving, you need to be sure to have the right safety gear for the job at hand. That means wearing long sleeves, long pants, closed toe shoes, eye protection, and oven gloves. Gloves are extremely important as the lid to the turkey fryer will be really hot. Also, be sure to have the proper tools for placing and removing the turkey from the deep fryer.

Don’t Leave – Stay with It

Never leave a frying turkey while it’s cooking. Be sure someone is watching it all times. A disaster can happen in an instant so having someone constantly manning this station is a great idea. Also be sure to keep the kids and pets away at safe distance. The oil is extremely hot and it can burn someone that’s even 4 – 6 feet away by spattering and popping out of the deep fryer.

Other Important Tips

Here are a few other safety tips that we feel are important for you to be aware of.

Overfilling

Don’t overfill the deep fryer. When you add the bird, it could displace the hot oil into the flames of the burner which could create a massive grease fire.

Overheating the Oil

Many outdoor deep fryers do not come with a temperature gauge, so be sure not to overheat the cooking oil. Overheating could also increase the risk of a grease fire.
