The Merrimon Wynne House, located in the downtown area of Raleigh, NC is one the newest, yet oldest, wedding venues in the county. The house, originally built in 1876, was recently restored back to its grandeur state to become Raleigh’s premier wedding venue. The charm and elegance of the 130 year old estate features expansive grounds nestled in the middle of downtown Raleigh’s historic district only a few steps away from the Governor’s Mansion. This historic estate venue can accommodate both small, and larger events up to 200 guests. The house is decorated so that everything from traditional, classic affairs to modern, contemporary events can be held here.
This new venue is just the event space for brides who want a wedding reception that is close to the downtown scene but also offers an outside area with many decorating options. We had the great pleasure of being able to provide the reception catering at a wonderful wedding here recently. We tried to pepper this post with our favorite pictures, but if you’d like to see the entire set from this magical day, you’ll have to visit our Pinterest board for Raleigh wedding venues.
The menu for the night was “Top Notch”. We started the guests off with butlered hors d’ oeuvres of Fried Green Tomatoes with Red Pepper Aioli along with Beef Wrapped Portobellos that were served with a Sesame Ginger Marinade and bite sized Chicken and Waffles.
As guests arrived at the reception area for seating, they were greeted with a pre-plated salad of fresh Baby Greens tossed with Toasted Walnuts, Mandarin Oranges and Dried Cranberries and finished off with our homemade Citrus Vinaigrette dressing.
The dinner was served buffet style and featured our savory roasted Breast of Chicken that was Stuffed with Portobellos, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Vermont White Cheddar. The main dish was served with Penne Pasta that was tossed with Spinach and Roasted Peppers bathing in a Basil Cream Sauce, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and a seasonal Sauté Vegetable Medley.
Anchoring the buffet was a Carving Station of Rosemary Roasted Prime Rib of Beef. Assorted Rolls and Butter, Whole Grain Mustard, Horseradish Sauce, and Balsamic Onion Marmalade were served on the side so guests could make miniature beef sliders.
