Cary NC Special Event Catering Tips for a Great Tailgate
Football season is almost here and there couldn’t be a better time to plan the perfect game day party. For me, it’s one of my favorite times of the year. For months, I’ve been looking forward to getting together with all my college friends, enjoying the weather as it finally starts to cool down and getting ready for the beautiful fall foliage and football fever that ignites the Triangle! Tailgating outside one of our local stadiums will no doubt be a big part of lots of people’s weekends whether you’re headed to Carter Finley, Wallace Wade or Kenan Memorial. I always love walking around and checking out all the fun ideas that seasoned tailgaters come up with for their game day festivities.
Here are some of our favorite tips for creating an awesome tailgate party for your next team event.
Game Day Menu
At most tailgate parties, you’ll find pretty similar menus. You’ll find the standard chips and salsa, buffalo wings, chili, vegetables with dip, cookies, and brownies. All of these sound great, right? They are great on their own, but when served all at once … at the same time, it can be overwhelming.
You should approach tailgate menus just like any other occasion. Make sure all of your foods are seasonally appropriate. Your menu items should complement each other and leave your guests satisfied. Do not use flavors that do not mix very well together – don’t serve a hot buffalo sauce on your wings if you’re also serving a spicy salsa. Each item should be part of a whole and they should act to balance out the sweet, spicy and savory flavors. We recommend choosing one or the other — for example, you could use a sweeter wing sauce as a compromise. Your guests’ stomachs will thank you!
A great tip for planning your menu is to take advantage of the season. Incorporate fall favorites like caramel apples and pumpkin spice cookies to make it feel like autumn has finally arrived.
How much food to prepare
Trying to figure out how much food to serve at a tailgate can also be a little tricky. You really never know exactly how many people will stop by and bring their friends. You want to have enough food for both invited guests and walk ups, but you don’t want so much food that it has to be packed back up and taken home.
As one of the best Cary NC special event catering companies, we say plan for about a 25% increase in guests over those that had confirmed. If you’re expecting 20, plan for 25. A great tip to ensure you have enough food is to take a few unopened, or resealable packages of snacks. Extra chips or nuts can really get you out of a jam!
