Celebrating a Happy Halloween for Special Olympics in Siler City

Tuesday evening, Special Olympics in Siler City celebrated their annual Halloween dance. Many of those in attendance sported costumes and had a fabulous time dancing the night away.

Once again, we had the honor of catering for these Olympians. This year, we provided roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, red velvet cake, and assorted soda.

The Special Olympics dance group has been held every Tuesday for the past 22 years. Greg Lewis, owner of Catering by Design lives near Siler City in Chatham County, and has been pleased to offer catering for Prom Night in addition to each of the holidays.

Louis, pays for all equipment and supplies every week to host the Special Olympics event. When Chef Greg is able to cater holiday events, this provides her with an opportunity to use her funds to purchase gifts or other supplies for participants. Having a special needs son herself, she understands the value of the Special Olympics community.

“When is the Special Olympics event?” we asked. “Every weekend of my life,” Joe Ellen, former Special Olympics Coordinator for Chatham County answered, “People don’t realize that we practice year round. Every team has to qualify and then qualify some more to be eligible to play in the state-wide events.”

Special holiday events are a time when fellow team members have a chance to socialize, while giving their families an opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy their evening.
