How to Bake Homemade Bread

Easy to Follow Recipe for Baking Bread

Servings: 32 | Prep: 20 min. + rising Bake: 30 min. + cooling


1 – 1/4 ounce package active dry yeast
2 – 1/4 cups warm water
3 tablespoons – sugar
1 tablespoon – salt
2 tablespoons – canola oil
6 – 3/4 cups all-purpose flour


First, dissolve your yeast in a large bowl of warm water. Then add the salt, oil, sugar, and 3 cups of your flour. Beat this mixture until smooth. Now stir in the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time to form a soft dough. Transfer the soft dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 – 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Now place the dough into a greased bowl, turn once to coat the top. Cover and let rise in a warm area until the dough has doubled in size. This will take about an hour and a half.

Once risen, punch down and turn onto a lightly floured surface. Next, divide the dough in half and shape each portion into loafs. Place your portions into 2 greased 9×5 loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled. This should take about 30 – 45 minutes.

Now bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. The bread should sound almost hollow when tapped. Remove the loaves from their pans and place on a wire rack to cool.
